Latham Thomas explains proper nutrition for health and energy in your first trimester, including tips for easy and healthy snacks. See SureBaby.com’s full series of pregnancy videos at www.surebaby.com Full Transcript: Hi, I’m Latham Thomas, prenatal wellness expert with www.SureBaby.com and the founder of Tender Shoots Wellness. Today, we are going to talk about your nutrition for the first trimester. Eating and pregnancy go hand-in-hand. Now is the perfect time to change your diet and lifestyle. It’s time to eat wholesome food and avoid foods high in saturated fats. During pregnancy, a few hundred extra calories from healthy foods is all the extra you really need. Since certain vitamin and mineral needs (like calcium and iron) go up, so adding foods rich in these nutrients is best for you and your growing baby. Remember to take your fortified prenatal vitamin daily with folate and check in with your medical provider to see which prenatal is best for you. During the first trimester, you may find it difficult to eat a balanced diet if you are experiencing morning sickness. One way to help prevent morning sickness is to have a protein-rich meal for breakfast and dinner, and to eat at regular intervals throughout the day. This should consist of fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, yogurt, dried fruits, cut up veggies, dips like hummus and, of course, bottled water. Today, we’re going to make a quick trail mix that you’ll be able to take with you on the go. Take almonds (a good source

I am a STRICT vegitarian, I am also pregnant. I was wondering if I should be adding anything in particular to my diet to keep the fetus healthy.
edit – I do not eat any meat whatsoever, no beef, fish, poultry, pork etc… If it had a face … ever… I dont eat it.

Your baby needs alot of protein. Maybe you should eat some fish (without mercury) or turkey just these 9 months for your babies sake.

I love these bars. They taste really good and are great for 1st Trimester where you feel hungry all the time but can’t really keep much down. Only thing is that they are really pricey but I would buy again!

These are really tasty and great for a pregnant woman on the go. I was a full time student in college and planning a wedding while I was pregnant and I never had much time during the day for snacking, but I knew that I had to have snacks frequently for the baby. These were really easy to grab and eat!

These are ok – I’m on the fence about whether they are worth the small fortune I paid for them. They are a handy snack for work, but still a fair amount of calories for such a little bar. And the surprising part for me is that they don’t really taste like they have much for calories (a bummer if sweet is what you want). I will definitely finish up the box, but probably won’t buy more. Ultimately, don’t buy them to satisfy a craving, but I give them points for the vitamins & nutrients, and for convenience.

I took the three cans of Ensure to Romania with me as we were to work with the abandoned children and children with cerebral palsy. Alina, a 14 yr old girl with cerebral palsy was having difficulty eating but when we put the Ensure in her bottle in order for her to eat, she really liked it and would readily drink it. I am so happy as hopefully with more protein this will truly help sustain her life.

Can’t speak to the flavor because I use a feeding tube. But the cost is reasonable and it is handy that it is in a powder form. I plan to use this for emergencies as it takes less space than the bottles or cans. If you follow the instructions it mixes easy. If you do it the lazy way and throw the whole mix in the water at once it will come out clumpy unless you use some kind of blender. It’s nutrition is not quite as good as Jevity but I find if I buy put in FOS (in the supplement section)and soy protein powder it will do just nice in a pinch.
